What is Luxury

Ecotourism, as defined by the International Ecotourism Society, is "Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the wellbeing of local people".

Many people equate eco travel with "roughing it". That is rarely the case, although there are varying degrees of "luxury" and "primitive". Accommodation choices can range from superb lodging with private baths to tentlike structures with no electricity and coldwater showers. As an ecotraveler you will be immersing yourself in the Pura Vida, or Costa Rican, experience. To get the most of your ecotravel, you need to leave the standards of your home country behind for all things including measuring luxury. What is standard fare in your home country may not be available in an ecofriendly setting in Costa Rica. Costa Rica itself has a commitment to ecotourism and does not typically allow large properties which are not ecofriendly to be built near the national parks or private preserves.

Each region of Costa Rica may have its own definition of what is considered luxury for the area.

Whichever you choose, EcoCostaRicaTravel.com believes in promoting responsible travel. Our site will help you find the best of both worlds without letting luxury come at the expense of the environment.
